George is stalked, Kiki is staked, and Russ has his access cut off. Felicia gets an unexpected visitor. Zach is nearly mauled by a dog and Bob is... sober?
More information comes to light about the stone. The markings on it are a mixture of Celtic runes and Native American symbols. As far as anyone can tell the markings are from the same time period. Giles and the WC provide some info about a group of Druids most likely to have made the runes. They were active in England about 800 years ago. Something bad happened and the group shrank drastically. Today there are about 400 of them and they keep mostly to themselves.
Zach discovers that the seller of the stone has a son who attends his school. Zach confronts the boy, Sam Gerard Jr., about the stone; Sam gets very nervous. Later, Sam and another boy named Jack confront Zach and warn him to back off. (Jack is a lovely child. Histroy of discipline problems, arrest for petty theft, suspected of being involved in the "accidental" death of a teacher.) Despite Felicia's warnings to leave it alone, Zach heads out after school to case the Gerard home. What he finds is that they own a very large, angry dog.
Two guys in an unmarked car sit outside George's place all day. He calls the cops who come, talk to the guys in the car, and leave. It looks like one of the guys might have flashed a badge of some sort. Later in the day he returns home to find that they've broken in. They're still there and warn him to lay off looking for Felicia's dad. After they leave he begins looking for bugs.
While patrolling at Merriweather Post Pavillion, Bob and Kiki find the mauled corpse of a young girl. They're then attacked by what they later determine to be a Vahral demon. Kiki impales the demon on a tree, but not before Bob accidentally stabs her with a stake. Russ shows up and they take Kiki home to sleep it off.
Russ gets an email from the "goth group" (the one who gave Felicia a business card in Episode 1) and is invited to a meeting. At work, he discovers that his access to certain sensitive data has been cut off; specifically, he's warned to stop asking questions about Felicia's dad.
After determining that Sam Gerard Sr. works for a construction company, Russ goes to see him. He poses as an attorney for someone interested in purchasing stones like the one Sam recently sold on eBay. Russ learns that the stone came from the site of the new office complex being built near the mall.
Meanwhile, Bob is frantically plotting data on vampire and demon attacks. It seems that Vahrall demons are notorious for trying to open Hellmouths. Bob is hoping that some sort of pattern will emerge that will help them determine a likely spot for one. He contacts Giles to make sure that the Word of Valios (a talisman used as part of the Vahrall ritual) is safe. Later he performs a little ritual of his own, a little protection spell to prevent vampires from entering the office.
Kiki, Bob, and Russ patrol at the new construction site that night but find nothing suspicious.
That same night, Felicia answers a knock at her door to find someone who claims to be her father.
As the episode ends we see 3 orange-red, tennis ball sized lights come whirling out of the ground at the dig site. (They look suprisingly like the light that consumed the druid in the Episode 1 teaser.) The lights grow as they whirl, eventually reaching basketball size. They move faster and faster until they appear to be a solid ring of light, before disappearing back into the ground.
